The man accused of robbing a tourist and her young daughter as they were walking along Garapan has waived his right to a preliminary hearing. <\/p>\n
Carl Steven Aldan, 23, who is charged with robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery after he and a friend allegedly robbed a tourist and her daughter who were walking along Plumeria Avenue in Garapan, waived his right to a preliminary hearing last Monday. <\/p>\n
Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph Camacho ordered Aldan to return for his arraignment on Aug. 5. <\/p>\n
A preliminary hearing is a proceeding where the defense and prosecution argue whether or not there is probable cause to try a defendant in court. <\/p>\n
Aldan was represented by assistant public defender Karie Comstock, while the government was represented by assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas. <\/p>\n
According to court information, Department of Public Safety officers responded to a report of a robbery on July 14 at around 7:22pm along Plumeria Avenue in Garapan. The victim was a tourist and her young daughter, who said she was robbed by a man who ran out from a red Nissan Sentra and grabbed her purse while she and her daughter were walking along the road.<\/p>\n
Items stolen include a credit card, passports, an Hermes watch, and over $1,000 in cash.<\/p>\n
The red Nissan Sentra was later found at a home in Gualo Rai on July 18 and police learned that the vehicle\u2019s alleged driver during the robbery was Wilson Kenneth Caintoy Celeste.<\/p>\n
Upon interviewing Celeste, police learned that Aldan was the one who planned the robbery and needed a ride.<\/p>\n
Aldan also confessed to the robbery after allegedly calling the police to inform them that he was at the Commonwealth Health Center where his 5-month-old daughter was checked into.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
