(Contributed Photo)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Department of Public Works has broken ground for the $2,907,133.14 coastal road project on Rota, which connects the island\u2019s airport to the villages of Sinapalo and Songsong.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA common route for the people of Rota, this 9.5 miles of road project from the airport to the villages will eliminate the hazards and provide for safer travels,\u201d said Public Works Secretary James Ada at the groundbreaking ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Rota Mayor Efraim M. Atalig said the project connects villages but also leads to many tourist destinations that would benefit the tourism economy.<\/p>\n<p>Acting governor Arnold I. Palacios added that this project is a great improvement to an important road for the people of Rota.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRoute 10 will ensure safety, comfort, and convenience from Songsong to Sinapalo and an overall investment into the infrastructure of Rota,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The project, which is slated for completion in 2020, is funded by the Federal Highway Administration. The project links to other existing routes on Rota, making a circumferential link around the island.<\/p>\n<p>The project consists of eliminating hazards along Route 10 for approximately 9.5 miles from the airport intersection to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. power plant where the pavement ends. The scope of work involves road repair, anti-skid overlay on curves, installation of guardrails, traffic signs, and road pavement markers.
