The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management and Department of Public Safety, in conjunction with the Commonwealth Healthcare Corp.\u2019s Division of Public Health, have issued a smoke advisory in response to a fire at the old L&T garment factory in Lower Base Old that is adjacent to a junkyard with old tires and other plastic materials.
\nDue to the particulate matter contained in the smoke generated from the fire, the potential for air pollution exists.<\/p>\n
The Division of Public Health is issuing the following health advisory for people who have respiratory condition.<\/p>\n
People who have asthma, emphysema, or bronchitis should stay indoors (except for purpose of evacuating), close their windows, and minimize outdoors activities.<\/p>\n
People who are experiencing symptom of respiratory distress should seek medical care immediately.
\nAnyone who is concerned about the smoke may choose to stay indoors as well.<\/p>\n
Residents of Lower Base, Western Garapan all the way to Micro Beach and surrounding area should continue to monitor local news for future advisories from the division.<\/p>\n
