U.S. District Court for the NMI Chief Judge Ramona V. Manglona has issued a final order to forfeit to the U.S. government the $31,960 that was seized from a tourist who was convicted of harboring illegal aliens.<\/p>\n
In granting the U.S. government\u2019s request, Manglona said order of forfeiture became final since no third party filed a claim on the money seized from Sen Sun.<\/p>\n
Accordingly, Manglona said, the preliminary order of forfeiture is final.<\/p>\n
Manglona authorized the U.S. Marshals Service and the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to dispose of the $8,541 and $23,419, respectively, in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n
In the U.S. government\u2019s motion for a final order to forfeit the money, assistant U.S. attorney Eric O\u2019Malley said the order of forfeiture forms part of the plea agreement between the U.S. government and Sun.<\/p>\n
Sun, also known as Sam Sun, was accused of running a business that offered trip packages to pregnant Chinese women seeking to give birth on Saipan. He pleaded guilty to the charge of harboring illegal aliens.<\/p>\n
In May 2018, Sun was sentenced to 12 months and one day in prison. <\/p>\n
Authorities seized $8,541 from Sun during his arrest on Nov. 3, 2017, and $23,419 more during the search of his home in Gualo Rai on Nov. 9, 2017.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
