Now it is also about being environmentally responsible.<\/p>\n<p>Believing that long-term sustainability dictates being plastic-free and eco-friendly, Club C Gaming &amp; Entertainment will be using biodegradable straws, cups, take-out boxes, and paper bags starting today, Aug. 15.<\/p>\n<p>According to Club C Food &amp; Beverage manager Anita Go, \u201cWe live on an island surrounded by water and this is our home. \u2026The responsibility to protect the environment like the reefs, marine life, and the ocean rests upon us.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_306032\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-306032\" style=\"width: 224px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-306032\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/DSC08862-224x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"300\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-306032\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">From left: Club C accounting manager Evelyn Almine, HR manager Maggie Mendiola, Food &amp; Beverage manager Anita Go, and IT Supervisor Shane Pascual. \u201cBoth management and staff support Club C going eco-friendly,\u201d Go said. (Bea Cabrera)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cFrom today onwards, our take-out boxes will no longer be made out of Styrofoam and plastic. \u2026We don\u2019t want to keep hurting the environment and promoting something that should not be done\u2026,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>Go said the Club C management and staff are aware of the harmful effects of using plastics, especially when they end up in the ocean. \u201cIt breaks my heart to see garbage on the beach left behind by people [who] don\u2019t care about the environment. \u2026I have a diver friend and one time he picked up a shrunken Styrofoam cup underwater. These things don\u2019t melt and what happens when the fish eat them and we end up eating that fish?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that many establishments on Saipan are going eco-friendly and, since Club C is a part of the CNMI community, \u201cwe felt that we should also do our part. We are the first gaming venue on Saipan that went green.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to data, there are now over 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic in the ocean, with the number continuing to grow every day. Plastic pollution is suffocating the ocean and the marine and non-marine animals that call it home.<\/p>\n<p>Club C gets its biodegradable straws, cups, take-out boxes, and paper bags from Guam.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a bit expensive but for the cause that we want to [support], it is worth it and, in the long run, they\u2019re less expensive.\u201d<br \/>\nGo said that Club C\u2019s second goal is to create awareness and for people to get used to the practice. \u201cWe hope to ingrain in the community the practice of taking care of the environment,\u201d she said. \u201cWe also see no problem if customers decide to bring their own [food] containers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Club C is also a smoke-free facility.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Club C is no longer just about responsible gaming.
