(Contributed Photo)

The Commonwealth Health Care Corp. kicked off its Guest Chef series yesterday at the CHCC cafeteria with the culinary talents of Oba Sushi chefs Juan Diaz and Kindo Villagomez, in a program meant to showcase local chefs and promote heathy meals.

According to CHCC spokesperson Zoe Travis, the series provides opportunities for local chefs to showcase their talents, serve nutritional meals, and provide charitable support for the unmet needs of CHCC patients.

The series is expected to continue over the next few weeks, and updates will be posted on CHCC’s Facebook page.

Travis said the chefs worked with the CHCC’s dietary and nutrition staff to make sure that the meals they are offering are up to the CHCC’s health and nutrition standards.

The food provided in this series is available to both Commonwealth Health Center patients and non-patients. Those who wanted to buy the food had to pre-order, since the food is delivered to the cafeteria. Yesterday, Oba Sushi provided a variety of sushi rolls such as the Crunch Rolls, Spicy Tuna Rolls, Northern Lights Rolls, and the Lover’s Avenue.

“In addition to promoting local businesses, the guest chef also helps the CHCC financially, as we can save on the cost of supplies and staff time,” Travis said.

The guest chefs also benefit. They receive the majority of the proceeds. Travis said that CHCC will not be making any profit out of the sales.

She said that this move is considered as a cost-saving measure, since CHCC won’t be using its own resources for the series.

Travis said a number of restaurants have the chance to participate, including several restaurants in the CNMI Nutrition Council’s Biba Program, such as Everest Kitchen, Caravan of Foods, and Shirley’s Coffee Shop.

“All of the Biba establishments have already been approved by the nutritionist and the dietitian and they will get a chance to be part of the series,” she said.

The Commonwealth Health Care Corp. kicked off its Guest Chef series yesterday at the CHCC…

[4
666
post-306832","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-local-news","tag-chcc
["GET
