So come taste sonnet Connolly tales submitted comments today.<\/em><br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Old Age on the Rise: My Demise<\/strong><br \/>\nOn my timely demise there is from little to no surprise<br \/>\nfor a doddering old fool who taught school this applies<br \/>\nfacing onset of senile dementia Alzheimer\u2019s disease vies<br \/>\naging and less raging signal a more sedentary life on the rise.<\/p>\n<p>At the rising of the moon a cell phone paging lunatic cries<br \/>\nmocking death and insurance actuarial tables it denies<br \/>\nsynaptic malfunctions and short-term memory loss in disguise<br \/>\nthe inability to remember or recall as father time flies.<\/p>\n<p>What stares me in the face and confronts my bewildered eyes<br \/>\nis a pack of distortions, deceptions, and more deliberate lies<br \/>\na shot of reality wine in a glass of truth I have to analyze<br \/>\nto absorb septuagenarian whats whens wheres and whys.<\/p>\n<p>Throwing it back at me, the mirror on the wall spies<br \/>\nwhat some elderly despise, white hair on head and beard,<br \/>\nOh me! Oh my! hear my false cries.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Old Age Spins: A Gain, A Loss, Alas<\/strong><br \/>\nMy little shin splints make me wince<br \/>\nmy little crotch rash comes in a flash<br \/>\nget rid of that bottle of black hair rinse<br \/>\nget access to your big bundle of cash<br \/>\neye lashes invisibly irritating my eyes<br \/>\nskin tags under my arms and on my neck<br \/>\nan old friend shows up a complete surprise<br \/>\nno need to kiss her just give her a peck<br \/>\nageist putdowns heard more at my age<br \/>\nin church my knees refuse to let me kneel<br \/>\ncan\u2019t remember whether I turned the page<br \/>\nrains effect on my arthritis I always feel<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nold age spins are now my everyday tales<br \/>\nold aged whiskey puts wind in my sails.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>Growing Old Tips: Don\u2019t Read My Lips<\/strong><br \/>\nIn my poetry I\u2019m not really looking for profundity<br \/>\nbut do hope to provide readers some levity and humor<br \/>\nas years slow me down and increase my rotundity<br \/>\njust an old boomer who can smile at a new rumor.<\/p>\n<p>Hoping some of my satiric and narrative poems<br \/>\ncatch a few eyes and begin that interior journey<br \/>\nconnecting neural synapses inside grey haired domes<br \/>\nand provide mirth before readers go out in a gurney.<\/p>\n<p>Oh not hah ha hah! but perhaps a wry or sly smile<br \/>\ncoming when readers get my sarcastic points of view<br \/>\nwhich go sloshing around memory banks for a while<br \/>\nthat would be my ideal in reaching out to you.<\/p>\n<p>Looking for some fun \u2018how to age gracefully\u2019 tips<br \/>\nread some of my doggerel poetry, just don\u2019t read my lips.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Joey &#8216;Pepe Batbon&#8217; Connolly (Special to the Saipan Tribune)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Joey \u201cPepe Batbon\u201d Connolly is a retired teacher and has been named a poet laureate of Tinian.
