Gov. Ralph DLG Torres warned the public late Wednesday evening that fake accounts on social media that pretend to be him are circulating online and that this matter has already been reported to federal and local authorities.<\/p>\n
In a notice he posted on his official Facebook account, Torres said these sham social media accounts have been messaging people and posing as the governor.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet me set the record straight. I rarely message people via Facebook Messenger. If you have received a message from a fake account that is not coming from this account, \u2018Ralph DLG Torres,\u2019 please report that account to Facebook. Federal and local law enforcement [has] been notified and will prosecute individuals caught doing this,\u201d he said in the notice.<\/p>\n
He noted that his official Facebook profile was specifically created to share announcements, policy initiatives, and updates on the Commonwealth. <\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026I don\u2019t have the time to post on Facebook every hour like some people who have more time on their hands,\u201d he added. \u201c\u2026I use it intentionally with a focus on inspiring and encouraging everyone in our tightly-knit community, manhoben to man\u2019amko, to be a part of the solution and to create more progress for our community. I use social media to make positive friendships and genuine connections with people who have helped me be a better governor.\u201d<\/p>\n
The fake profiles that use the governor\u2019s name and photo either use \u201cRalph Torres\u201d or \u201cRalph Deleon Guerrero Torres\u201d as their usernames, according to Torres\u2019 post. In a search for posts pertaining to reported contacts made from the fake accounts, they appear to have already been deleted.<\/p>\n
Torres said his only focus right now \u201cis to fix our finances, continue our recovery from Super Typhoon Yutu, get us out of austerity, release our tax rebate and remaining child tax checks soon, and replenish the funding for [the] Public School System, Northern Marianas College, Commonwealth Health Care Corp., Marianas Visitors Authority, and the rest of our departments and agencies.\u201d <\/p>\n
