In honor of the occasion, here is a continuation of my T.O.A.S.T: Timeless Old Age Senior Tales.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ti Nayuyut Para Todo Tatan Bihu Yan Nanan Biha Siha<\/strong><br \/>\n<em>Everyone is praying for our grandparents<\/em><br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nYes, all our parent\u2019s parents are great and grand<br \/>\nto them the world\u2019s cultures show deep respetu<br \/>\nyan todu kuttura comprende and understand<br \/>\nthis is mas importante from nieta yan nietu.<\/p>\n<p>You know they look a little bit like Mom and Dad<br \/>\nor do my Mom and Dad look a lot like them?<br \/>\nI heard some manaina say they\u2019re feeling very bad<br \/>\nsome grandparents have a hearing and vision problem.<\/p>\n<p>They led difficult lives and worked hard every day<br \/>\non farms and in their yards, hauled a lot of water<br \/>\nat fiesta times they took some time to enjoy and play<br \/>\nand teach kuttura yan kustumbre to son and daughter.<\/p>\n<p>Now they are old, some getting quiet and mellow<br \/>\nHappy Grandparent\u2019s Day to guella yan guello.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Old Age Day? or Getting Older and Aged Day?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We have National Senior Citizen\u2019s Day on August twenty-first<br \/>\nthen there is Grandparent\u2019s Day on the 8th\u00a0day of September<br \/>\nbut there is one more holiday for old timers for which I thirst<br \/>\nmaybe between Senior and Grandparent\u2019s Day is easy to remember.<br \/>\nWe could call it Old Age Day or even Getting Older and Aged Day<br \/>\nsometime during the seasons of autumn or winter might be appropriate<br \/>\nsome folks are Juniors by name, some won\u2019t become grandparents anyway<br \/>\na day for when one realizes parts of mind and body are starting to quit.<br \/>\nA day when you can say, I\u2019m in my old age, I\u2019m really getting older<br \/>\nYour losing your head hair, it is gone already, or your dying it<br \/>\nyour physical and sexual activity is decreasing, not getting any bolder<br \/>\nthe business of eating less? exercising more? you\u2019re not even trying it.<br \/>\nSo as your short term memory banks fail there is nothing can prevent ya<br \/>\nfrom forgetting where you put this and that at onset of senile dementia.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nGRANDPARENTS: BOOMER SONNETS<br \/>\n<em>Written at Blythe, CA Huck Finn Festival on Jan. 18, 2013. This poem was published in the Saipan Tribune several years ago.<\/em><br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nDo you remember your grandparents, even the in-laws?<br \/>\nBoth sides from your biological mother and dad?<br \/>\nDid you have special names for them,\u2018Opa\u2019,\u2019Mamaw\u2019, and \u2018Papaw\u2019?<br \/>\nDid they always hug and comfort you when you were sad?<\/p>\n<p>Did they favor an older sister or a younger brother?<br \/>\nWere some dead before you were born or soon after?<br \/>\nDid they give you all the same presents or one thing then another?<br \/>\nWhen they came by did you know you were in for laughter?<\/p>\n<p>Are you one now? Do your grandkids live very far away?<br \/>\nDo you enjoy the drive to see them, like to watch them play?<br \/>\nAre your kids not too happy when for a week you\u2019ll stay?<br \/>\nAre your grandkids the smartest and cutest no matter what others say?<\/p>\n<p>So Gramps, Grams, grumpy Grandpa, and gentle Grammies<br \/>\nenjoy your grandkids, sunburned, dirty, or in their jammies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Last Sunday, Sept. 8, was Grandparent\u2019s Day.
