For PDM Promoters, Inc. director Misako Kamata, the non-profit organization\u2019s continued cleanup of Paseo de Marianas simply means the group cares about the area.<\/p>\n
\u201cA clean environment is not just a pretty sight, it is a sign that our community cares,\u201d she said shortly after 38 volunteers of PDM Promoters cleaned the area last Saturday.<\/p>\n
Last weekend\u2019s cleanup saw 29 members of the Saipan Awaodori Team and nine staff from Kinpachi Restaurant take part in the endeavor that netted 440 lbs of trash. <\/p>\n
Kamata, who is also the owner of Kinpachi Restaurant, said the cleanup is also a learning experience for the youth. \u201cIt\u2019s a great start to learn community responsibility and more likely they will continue doing this as adults,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The two-hour cleanup of Paseo de Marianas, Coral Tree Avenue, American Memorial Park road, and Beach Road and its connecting alleyways saw the group pick up everything from used water bottles, to soda cans, beer cans, food wrappers, and other trash.<\/p>\n
The volunteers also kept themselves busy sweeping cigarette butts as well as bush-cutting and plant-trimming along Paseo de Marianas. <\/p>\n
Like previous monthly cleanups, the Bureau of Environmental and Coastal Quality helped by waiving the fee for trash disposal. <\/p>\n
PDM Promoters\u2019 monthly cleanups are held every Saturday and are supported by BECQ and the non-profit\u2019s major sponsors, T-Galleria and TSL Foundation. <\/p>\n
T-Galleria and TSL Foundation\u2019s support enables them to have the cleaning materials needed on their monthly cleanups. Kinpachi Restaurant provides the meal and snacks for the volunteers. <\/p>\n
Volunteers of PDM Promoters will be at it again next October when they conduct their 10th monthly cleanup of 2019. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
