{"id":307808,"date":"2019-09-12T06:06:15","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T20:06:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=307808"},"modified":"2019-09-12T06:06:15","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T20:06:15","slug":"coalition-vs-domestic-violence-seeks-chambers-help","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/coalition-vs-domestic-violence-seeks-chambers-help\/","title":{"rendered":"Coalition vs domestic violence seeks Chamber\u2019s help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence is seeking to work with the Saipan Chamber of Commerce in protecting employees from sexual and domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>In a presentation at the Chamber\u2019s September meeting last Wednesday at the Fiesta Resort &amp; Spa Saipan\u2019s Hibiscus Hall, coalition executive director Maisie Tenorio said that businesses have a special opportunity to create safe zones for workers in order to avoid any form of violence in the workplace.<\/p>\n<p>She suggested increasing employers\u2019 commitment to keep employees safe, as a workplace also is an environment that can be affected by any form of violence. <\/p>\n<p>She said there are laws to punish those who incite violence, particularly Public Law 18-31, or the \u201cThe CNMI Anti-Violence Leave Act of 2013,\u201d which protects employees against any form of domestic or sexual violence in a workplace and provides harsher penalties for violators.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, she informed the Chamber about a website on how to protect employees from violence, and how to create policies that can help create a safe working environment.
