{"id":30863,"date":"2014-03-27T13:56:09","date_gmt":"2014-03-27T05:56:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tribune.ctsi-logistics.com\/?p=30863"},"modified":"2014-03-27T13:56:09","modified_gmt":"2014-03-27T05:56:09","slug":"ag-cup-take-place-tinian-may","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/ag-cup-take-place-tinian-may\/","title":{"rendered":"AG\u2019 Cup to take place on Tinian in May"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 13px;\">The Office of the Attorney General announced yesterday that the 30th Annual Attorney General\u2019s Cup Speech Competition will be held on May 2, 2014, on the island of Tinian.\u00a0<\/span><br \/>\nThe AG Cup is an annual speech competition that fosters research and debate among the islands\u2019 high school students. The attorney general selects a current and controversial topic that is then distributed to all of the CNMI\u2019s public and private schools. Each school may send one student to give a speech before a panel of esteemed judges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI encourage all high school students in the CNMI to take part in this historical and momentous event,\u201d said Attorney General Joey San Nicolas. \u201cWe are celebrating our 30th year and the host island will be Tinian, which I am extremely excited about.\u201d San Nicolas said the AG Cup\u2019s planning committee \u201chave been meeting and working tirelessly in preparation for this event and we anticipate a great turnout this year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The topic for this year concerns the federal takeover of the Commonwealth\u2019s immigration system. More specifically, it directs students to research the federal Consolidated Natural Resource Act that mandates the non-immigrant worker population in the CNMI to be phased out. Students are expected to research the laws and its requirements, but most importantly, students are compelled to make their own recommendations on how the federal government should address the issue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to thank our subcommittee on Tinian for their continued assistance,\u201d said San Nicolas. The subcommittee consists of representatives of the Tinian\u2019s Mayors Office, Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission, Tinian Chamber of Commerce, and Tinian Public School System.<\/p>\n<p>The event will be held at the Tinian Jr.-Sr. High School\u2019s Cafetorium, San Jose Village, Tinian.
