Lou Leon Guerrero has dispatched Lt. Gov. Joshua Tenorio to lead an aggressive federal mission.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_308885\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-308885\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Joshua-Tenorio-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-308885\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-308885\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Tenorio<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>During the two-week mission, Tenorio will work to advance Guam\u2019s agenda on several federal issues. These include: the Guam military buildup, federal land return, the extension of Medicaid funds that is set to expire on Oct. 1, Guam decolonization, World War II claims, and the territory\u2019s H-2B labor shortage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy focus is on managing our response efforts right here at home. I can do that because I know Lt. Gov. Josh will represent Guam well during these important meetings and work sessions,\u201d Leon Guerrero said.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, and in recognition of a joint effort among the Office of the Governor, the University of Guam\u2019s Center for Island Sustainability, and the Global Island Partnership, Guam has been invited to participate in a high-level event at the United Nations Climate Week centered on the U.N.\u2019s 2030 Initiative for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIslands in the Pacific contribute the least to global warming but our neighbors are dealing with its harmful effects every day. Armed with this knowledge and information, and as leaders of our island, the governor and I are taking proactive steps to combat climate change and support sustainable development on a global scale. That includes promoting the U.N.\u2019s goals on sustainability,\u201d Tenorio said.<\/p>\n<p>In advance of Tenorio\u2019s participation in climate change activities with the U.N., Leon Guerrero signed Executive Order 2019-23 creating the Guam Green Growth Working Group. The goal of the working group is to support a public-private partnership approach to solutions and programs consistent with the U.N.\u2019s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreen initiatives do more than protect our environment, the technology and innovation<\/p>\n<p>they inspire can expand our economy and create sustainable jobs,\u201d said Leon Guerrero. <strong>(PR)<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HAG\u00c5T\u00d1A, Guam\u2014Focused on managing Guam\u2019s dengue response efforts, Guam Gov.
