(Bea Cabrera)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>For the 11th year in a row, the Marianas Young Professionals hosted its signature \u201cmentor for a meal\u201d program, to give public high school students a chance to talk to professionals from different fields and ask a bunch of questions that would help them as they try to forge a career path.<\/p>\n<p>Last week\u2019s event, held at the Marianas Creations restaurant on Micro Brach Road in Garapan, was attended by 10 high school students from Kagman High School, Marianas High School, and Southern High School.<\/p>\n<p>MyPros executive director Gerard Van Gils said this project is one way of helping the youth become better community members and is an investment in the CNMI\u2019s youths. Mentoring them will equip them with tools to achieve what they envision as their future selves, he added.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cWe are trying to grow tomorrow\u2019s young professionals. \u2026Our young people don\u2019t go from scholars to young professionals in a day but we are going to get them there as a community,\u201d he said. \u201cRight now, while our Public School System is suffering so much, our young people and teachers are going through difficult times. \u2018Mentor for a meal\u2019 is one of the things that make the community come together and help the youth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One of the \u201cmentors,\u201d Micah Page, who is a teacher and college adviser at Southern High School, pointed out that it is the students who do much of the work in school and this program will hopefully inspire the students to \u201cbecome more responsible about school and their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The mentors that were present were MyPros board of directors member Kaitlyn Neisis-Mocanu, Bobby Cruz, and Jacqueline Que, MYPros deputy director Chris Delos Santos,\u00a0JZ Group legal counsel Jordan Sundell, Saipan Tribune correspondent Bea Cabrera, Kagman High School principal Leila Staffler, and U.S. Department of Defense spokesman Brad Ruszala.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_308916\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-308916\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/MyPros-pix2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/MyPros-pix2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" class=\"size-full wp-image-308916\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-308916\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Saipan Tribune correspondent\u00a0Bea Cabrera mentors Lei Pangelinan from Southern High School.
