Hopwood Middle School students who have to wait for their school bus to get to their temporary campus need not stand under the sun and rain anymore. <\/p>\n

Last Friday, Kensington Hotel Saipan turned over a bus shelter at Hopwood to the Public School System\u2019s Office of Pupil Transportation.<\/p>\n

The bus shelter is the fourth of its newly-built bus stops, and the 11th of the bus stop projects that Kensington Hotel\u2019s parent company, E-land Group, has built all over Saipan.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have made 11 bus shelters since we came here. We are very glad to have a chance to work with the community and provide for the children\u2019s bus shelter. I wish they can keep this one clean and beautiful all their lives for the environment. The [kids] deserve this,\u201d said E-Land chief executive officer Matthew Park.<\/p>\n

Hopwood principal Dr. Rizalina Liwag said the new bus shelter in Afetna \u201cwill really help our students be covered under the sun and when it rains.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have hundreds of students residing here because this is really close to our old campus,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n

According to Liwag, the bus shelter will serve as a place for students to be picked up and dropped off since the area is a new route going to Hopwood due to the relocation of their temporary school campus.<\/p>\n

Saipan Mayor David M. Apatang said the turnover of the new bus stop is just in time for the students living in the area since it is now the rainy season.<\/p>\n

With 117 bus stops on the island, there are sites that are designated as bus shelters but do not have actual structures. The Office of Pupil Transportation is thankful to the many community groups and private companies that are helping build the bus shelters. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe are encouraging other organizations\u2026to come out, give us a call, and see where we need bus shelters because [there are still] a few more bus shelters locations out there that do not actually have a real structure,\u201d said Office of Pupil Transportation director Shawn San Nicolas.<\/p>\n

Aside from Hopwood students, the new bus shelter will also serve Saipan Southern High School and Koblerville Elementary School students. <\/p>\n
