{"id":309653,"date":"2019-10-09T06:00:21","date_gmt":"2019-10-08T20:00:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=309653"},"modified":"2019-10-09T06:00:21","modified_gmt":"2019-10-08T20:00:21","slug":"we-dodged-a-bullet","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/we-dodged-a-bullet\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018We dodged a bullet\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Super Typhoon Hagibis spared most of the CNMI from the destruction wrought by previous mega-storms like Soudelor and Yutu. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe dodged a bullet,\u201d said one of the emergency evacuation shelter occupants.<\/p>\n<p>Jim, whose name is withheld for privacy reasons, said that his house was destroyed by Super Typhoon Yutu last October 2018. The place where he currently lives cannot sustain any pummeling from the bad weather, forcing him to move to an emergency shelter.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he learned of the opening of the emergency shelters through texts from IT&amp;E and he took no chances. Jim said he was able to pack a couple of days\u2019 worth of clothing and food for his family of four. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy wife and two kids have already experienced the trauma of losing our home right in front of our eyes. \u2026We don\u2019t want to take any more risks,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Once he left the shelter, Jim learned that his family\u2019s home was safe.
