The Commonwealth Health Care Corp. recently made a $200,000 partial payment to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. for its utilities that has reportedly ballooned to over $27 million.<\/p>\n
CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho informed CUC directors during Thursday\u2019s board meeting that he met with CHCC chief executive officer Esther Mu\u00f1a to discuss CHCC\u2019s delinquent accounts.<\/p>\n
Camacho said their discussion was productive and that Mu\u00f1a made a payment of $200,000. Camacho said Mu\u00f1a also stated that she recognizes the debt problem and explained challenges the health care corporation is currently dealing with.<\/p>\n
He said Mu\u00f1a disclosed that she is working on a resolution to pay the monthly bills and that she would need legislative support for that.<\/p>\n
With the $200,000 partial payment, Camacho did not indicate how much CHCC still owes CUC.<\/p>\n
Last May, acting CUC board chair Weston Deleon Guerrero said CUC should take CHCC to court to compel it to pay its debt, which has reportedly reached over $27 million, with CHCC allegedly failing to pay $400,000 in monthly bills. <\/p>\n
Deleon Guerrero said the court should intervene and decide on the matter as it is the only remaining avenue for CUC to collect the money. <\/p>\n
Last April, Camacho said that, according to CHCC, they can only afford to pay $71,000 at this time because of other obligations that they must meet.<\/p>\n
Camacho underscored the need to be creative and work something out with CHCC to collect the receivables.<\/p>\n
Last March, CUC reported that CHCC owes the utilities agency $27,412,615, with its past due being four years. Last April, the debt reached $27.7 million. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
