{"id":309984,"date":"2019-10-15T06:00:39","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T20:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=309984"},"modified":"2019-10-15T06:00:39","modified_gmt":"2019-10-14T20:00:39","slug":"juan-pan-featured-in-amp-youth-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/juan-pan-featured-in-amp-youth-program\/","title":{"rendered":"Juan Pan featured in AMP youth program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Once again, the American Memorial Park and Pacific Historic Parks are hosting the annual program, \u201cIcons of World War II.\u201d The program leads children in hands on learning about iconic World War II figures. <\/p>\n<p>Last year featured Rosie the Riveter, the servicemen who left home to fight in the war, and the locals who were drafted as Marine scouts. This year the program will feature two men who also played a significant role in the CNMI islands\u2019 history: Herman \u201cPan\u201d Guerrero of Herman\u2019s Bakery and Haruji Matsue, also known as the Sugar King. <\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8:30am to-2:30pm, the park welcomes youth to participate in the first session, called \u201cHerman \u2018Pan\u2019 Guerrero: A Baker in War.\u201d Guerrero established a business during a time of war and hardship, opening up his bakery 75 years ago, in 1944. Participants will learn about Guerrero and how he built his business in such challenging times. In partnership with Herman\u2019s Bakery and the Guerrero family, participants will be able to visit the bakery and go on an exciting tour of the original establishment in Dandan. <\/p>\n<p>The park invites children ages 5-12 to join them for this fun and educational opportunity to taste a piece of Saipan\u2019s history.
