{"id":310024,"date":"2019-10-15T06:06:49","date_gmt":"2019-10-14T20:06:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=310024"},"modified":"2019-10-15T06:06:49","modified_gmt":"2019-10-14T20:06:49","slug":"cop-hotel-re-opening-is-delayed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cop-hotel-re-opening-is-delayed\/","title":{"rendered":"COP hotel re-opening is delayed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The initial plan to re-open the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort in March 2020 has been pushed back due to manpower problems, according to Hotel Association of the Northern Mariana Islands board chair Gloria Cavanagh.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview last week, Cavanagh also revealed that the renovation at the Pacific Islands Club in San Antonio is now 90% complete.<\/p>\n<p>Cavanagh is general manager of PIC, which is the sister company of Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort in Koblerville.<\/p>\n<p>Super Typhoon Yutu wreaked havoc on Saipan in October 2018, causing major damage at PIC and COP. COP has been closed since Yutu\u2019s onslaught. <\/p>\n<p>It was reported last May that COP has finally started the process of renovation, which involves tearing down the damaged parts.<\/p>\n<p>Cavanagh said that COP was scheduled to re-open this March but, because of challenges with manpower, its re-opening was moved back.<\/p>\n<p>Cavanagh can\u2019t give a specific date on COP\u2019s re-opening because they don\u2019t have the schedule yet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut they are making headway and the demolition is done already and now they are starting to build,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Cavanagh said that, right now, they are working with the number of construction workers they have on the island.<\/p>\n<p>With respect to PIC, Cavanagh said that renovation work on about 10% of the resort has yet to be completed. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe still have to put the tiles on the roof,\u201d she said, adding that they would probably complete the renovation by the first or second quarter of next year.<\/p>\n<p>Last Dec. 21, PIC re-opened almost two months after sustaining major damage.<\/p>\n<p>Cavanagh earlier estimated that repairing and renovating PIC would cost between $5 million and $7 million.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The initial plan to re-open the Coral Ocean Point Golf Resort in March 2020 has&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":23,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[900],"tags":[729],"class_list":["post-310024","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-featured","tag-cop"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/310024","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/23"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=310024"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/310024\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=310024"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=310024"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=310024"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
