Eloy S. Inos in leading this morning\u2019s groundbreaking for the Kalabera Cave improvement project funded through capital improvement projects money from the U.S. Department of the Interior\u2019s Office of Insular Affairs.<\/span><br \/>\nKalabera Cave is a historic site on Saipan\u2019s northern part that is frequented by visitors and residents. During World War II, for example, it was a hiding place for civilians and soldiers.<\/p>\n<p>The governor, along with special assistant for management and budget Vicky Villagomez, made the announcement of the groundbreaking at yesterday\u2019s signing of a patent conveying to the CNMI rights to oil, gas and mineral deposits.<\/p>\n<p>Faeth, who is on Saipan for the very first time, said the Interior is \u201cpleased\u201d about the 9am ceremony for the cave improvement project \u201cthat was funded through CIP funds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The project, according to figures from the CIP Office requested yesterday, could reach $940,000.<\/p>\n<p>Carl Castro, of the CIP Ofifce, said this includes a $140,372 contract for the construction of the chain link fence, latte huts replica and prayer house.<\/p>\n<p>Two other contracts will be awarded at a later time \u201cand upon additional funds identified,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The project designer is SSFM-Saipan, while the construction contractor is USA Fanter Corp. Ltd. The contracting agency is the Office of the Governor\u2019s Capital Improvement Program.<\/p>\n<p>The project is part of the CNMI\u2019s Destination Enhancement and Economic Plan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Visiting U.S. Interior assistant secretary for insular areas Lori Faeth will join Gov.
