The CNMI Public School System, whose facilities are used for shelters during the storm, usually posts announcements about shelter openings on its social media (i.e. Facebook) page\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Make plans to secure your property:<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Assist your family cover all of your home\u2019s windows\u00a0<br \/>\n\u2022 Be sure trees and shrubs around your home are well trimmed so they are more wind resistant<br \/>\n\u2022 Clear loose and clogged rain gutters and downspouts<br \/>\n\u2022 Plan to bring in all outdoor furniture, decorations, garbage cans and anything else that is not tied down<\/p>\n<p><strong>DURING A TYPHOON<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Listen to the radio or TV for information, and keep your weather radio handy<br \/>\n\u2022 Secure your home, close storm shutters and secure outdoor objects or bring them indoors<br \/>\n\u2022 Turn off utilities if instructed to do so. Otherwise, turn the refrigerator thermostat to its coldest setting and keep its doors closed<br \/>\n\u2022 Turn off propane tanks<br \/>\n\u2022 Avoid using the phone, except for serious emergencies.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ensure a supply of water for sanitary purpose such as cleaning and flushing toilets: fill the bathtub and other larger containers with water<br \/>\n\u2022 Find out how to keep food safe during and after and emergency<\/p>\n<p><strong>AFTER THE TYPHOON <\/strong><br \/>\nWait for the \u201cALL CLEAR\u201d message on the local media.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n<strong>AFTER THE \u2018ALL CLEAR\u2019&#8230;<\/strong><br \/>\n\u2022 Look out for and do not touch dangling or downed power lines.<br \/>\n\u2022 Report them and broken water or sewage lines, and downed telephone lines to CUC.<br \/>\n\u2022 Do not consume any food and water which might have spoiled or contaminated<br \/>\n\u2022 Use stored or sterilized water.<\/p>\n<p><em>Source: Northern Marianas College<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>CHC GUIDELINES<\/strong><br \/>\nFor pregnant females who are planning to shelter at the Commonwealth Health Care Corp., eat a full meal before arriving at the hospital. Bring the following items, if possible, for your convenience and comfort:<br \/>\n\u2022 Identification and insurance cards<br \/>\n\u2022 Medication<br \/>\n\u2022 Drinking water<br \/>\n\u2022 Snacks that do not require refrigeration or heating<br \/>\n\u2022 Personal toiletries (toothbrush, soap, lotion)<br \/>\n\u2022 A change of clothing, including undergarments<br \/>\n\u2022 A set of newborn clothing<br \/>\n\u2022 Phone and phone charger<br \/>\n\u2022 Books, tablets, games, and other entertainment to pass the time<br \/>\n\u2022 Personal pillows and blankets for additional comfort<\/p>\n<p>CHCC would also like to provide the community with the following typhoon preparation guidelines.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ensure that you have enough of any medications to last for at least three days. Store medication in a waterproof container, if possible.
