Once you see these flags ahead, this is the porch of the restaurant. (Marc A. Venus)

Koblerville residents and those wondering about the lack of restaurants and eateries in the southern part of Saipan are now excited as a popular restaurant expanded its services to the island. Sunny Side II opened last Saturday, Oct. 19, by Monsignor Martinez Cor Afetna road in Koblerville.

Sunny Side II owner Jennifer Orpiano said that what sets his restaurant apart from others is the variety and options of foods they offer. They have more than 20 different hot dishes to choose from every day. That’s in addition to the variety of snacks, baked goods, bento boxes, and merienda or light meals in Tagalog.

“We make sure there’s something for everyone at friendly prices,” she said. In the opening of the new Koblerville branch, they will continue to provide the large varieties of food, but will add a café bar to serve specialty coffee, milk tea, shakes, frozen desserts, and pastries.

“Our biggest fulfillment comes from seeing our customers happy with the food we serve, food is a universal source of joy and comfort, and to be able to provide that for our customer is what makes us proud of the work we do,” she said.

Amongst the many challenges businesses face nowadays, there are many challenges that they need to face when running a restaurant. Issues ranging from inventory, management, costs, staff, and many more just to name a handful.

“These challenges are expected and they come with the territory, but we have a strong team, and we’re always up for a good challenge,” she said.

Sunny Side Restaurant and Bakery, known as The Lounge beforehand, was launched in 2006 when Orpiano was just 17 and set to attend college off-island. She said that the planning phase of creating another branch in the southern part of Saipan has been in the works since last August, and she spearheaded the interior designing phase in preparation of the business’ opening.

The restaurant’s design is to cater for all audiences, especially those who prefer at modern feel into places as the southern part of Saipan lacks this certain setting. In addition, with the addition of a café bar, it will play a bigger role from its predecessor as it adds an even greater appeal to the younger audiences who tend to interact together in such places.

The Koblerville branch will be able to seat 60 customers. The restaurant will be open from 5:30am to 9pm.
