Here in the CNMI, as much as 18% of adults have diabetes, according to a Commonwealth Health Care Corp. report in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>To combat this disease, the Saipan Marianas Lions Club will hold its 2nd Annual 5K Walkathon Fundraiser (#LionsFightDiabetes) on Nov. 17, Sunday.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs one of our global causes, we serve to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve the quality of life for those diagnosed. In 2015, 30.3 million Americans, or 9.4% of the population, had diabetes,\u201d said Ladyvir D. Canape, Lions Club District 204 president. <\/p>\n<p>The walkathon will begin at 5:30am at the Carolinian Utt, go through the Beach Road Pathway, and turn around at Monika\u2019s Gallery back to the Carolinian Utt. <\/p>\n<p>Walkathon participants will need to register and pay $15, and will receive a dri-fit Altanx shirt.<\/p>\n<p>Half of the fundraiser\u2019s net proceeds will be donated to the CHCC Division of Public Health\u2019s Diabetes Control &amp; Prevention Program. <\/p>\n<p>For registration, email Judy Mendieta, committee chair for the 2nd Annual 5K Walkathon Fundraiser, at judy_mendieta@yahoo.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 30 million Americans have diabetes.
