{"id":310988,"date":"2019-10-30T06:06:52","date_gmt":"2019-10-29T20:06:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=310988"},"modified":"2019-10-30T06:06:52","modified_gmt":"2019-10-29T20:06:52","slug":"literary-journal-seeks-submissions-about-oceania-rising","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/literary-journal-seeks-submissions-about-oceania-rising\/","title":{"rendered":"Literary journal seeks submissions about Oceania rising"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Division of English and Applied Linguistics at the University of Guam invites writers and artists to submit poetry, prose, and artwork under the theme \u201cOceania Rising\u201d for the 19th\u00a0issue of its literary publication, Storyboard: A Journal of Pacific Imagery.\u00a0Unpublished work will be accepted until Dec. 16 via email to\u00a0storyboard@triton.uog.edu.<\/p>\n<p>Oceania is at the center of some of the world\u2019s most pressing issues: climate change, threats to indigenous rights, contamination of natural resources, and desecration of sacred lands. As Oceania faces these issues every day,\u00a0the editorial review board of Storyboard 19 recognized that the voices of Pacific peoples must be central to discussions about how to address these issues, editor Holly Rustick said. Thus, the 19th\u00a0issue seeks to \u201cprovide a platform for grassroots-to-global conversations and creative expression with the theme \u2018Oceania Rising,\u2019\u201d she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This call for submissions is open to the public. All submissions must fall under one of four categories: poetry, fiction, non-fiction written in English or any other Pacific language (with translations into English), and visual art.<\/p>\n<p>Possible topics related to the theme of \u201cOceania Rising\u201d include, but are not limited to, climate change, indigenous rights, bleached coral, ocean practices, plastic waste, conservation, self-determination, rising sea levels, marine protected areas, dislocation of peoples due to climate change, energy sources, contamination, pollution, traditional practices, and island wisdom.
