{"id":315959,"date":"2020-01-20T06:06:26","date_gmt":"2020-01-19T20:06:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=315959"},"modified":"2020-01-20T06:06:26","modified_gmt":"2020-01-19T20:06:26","slug":"chance-of-a-wildfire-high-and-increasing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/chance-of-a-wildfire-high-and-increasing\/","title":{"rendered":"Chance of a wildfire: High and increasing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Weather Service in Tiyan, Guam, warns that, as the Marianas gets deeper into the dry season, increase in the number and incidences of wildfires is to expected.<\/p>\n<p>In a short interview with NWS meteorologist Landon Aydlett, the wildfire threat for the Marianas is going up as conditions continue to dry out across the islands. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re much into the dry season. The fire dangers we have calculated here for Guam, which is pretty similar to Saipan, [is] at a high. \u2026As we go into weeks of little to no rainfall, we\u2019re going to see that wildfire threat increase, \u201c he said.<\/p>\n<p>Aydlett said the dry season for the Marianas is expected to persist up until May. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we go into the next few months, we\u2019re going to see the grass get more brown and brittle [and] conditions will dry up. We\u2019re just going to watch that closely,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>As for any possible typhoons or disturbances, Aydlett said it has been very quiet across Micronesia. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIts pretty quiet out there. We\u2019re hard core into the dry, trade winds season so we\u2019re going to see mainly dry weather with the breezy trade winds.
