The Board of Education approved the construction of a new facility for Public School System Da\u2019ok Academy that will be located within the Marianas High School campus.<\/p>\n
BOE chair Janice Tenorio, members Marylou Ada, Andrew Orsini, Herman Atalig, and Phillip Mendiola-Long unanimously voted to approve the construction of a brand-new building for the Da\u2019ok Academy. <\/p>\n
The Da\u2019Ok Academy building was completely destroyed by Super Typhoon Yutu in October 2018, leaving the academy without a permanent facility. <\/p>\n
Dr. Yvonne Pangelinan, Public School System association commissioner for student and support services, informed the board that the Federal Emergency Management Agency has allocated $1.7 million for either the renovation or construction of a new Da\u2019ok Academy building. The BOE opted for the construction of a new building. <\/p>\n
PSS is now in the process of deciding how many classrooms are needed for the Da\u2019ok Academy. <\/p>\n
Aside from classrooms, the new Da\u2019ok Academy facility will include an office for administration, restrooms, and a common area that will double as a cafeteria. <\/p>\n
Currently, Da\u2019ok Academy\u2019s 45 students are attending classes at the Northern Marianas Technical Institute in Lower Base, which has provided four classrooms for the use of the Da\u2019ok students but they have to vacate NMTI at the end of the instructional day because other programs need to occupy the same classrooms. <\/p>\n
