{"id":316306,"date":"2020-01-24T06:01:54","date_gmt":"2020-01-23T20:01:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=316306"},"modified":"2020-01-24T06:01:54","modified_gmt":"2020-01-23T20:01:54","slug":"karidat-helps-families-pay-rent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/karidat-helps-families-pay-rent\/","title":{"rendered":"Karidat helps families pay rent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Catholic Charities USA has given the Karidat Social Services a grant of $233,948 that will be used to provide rental assistance to families who remain displaced and homeless after Super Typhoon Yutu hit the CNMI in October 2018.<\/p>\n<p>The grant will run for three years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith this grant, it will provide eligible applicants a three-month rental assistance in order to put them in a place where it is safe while they are working on repairing their house,\u201d said acting Karidat executive director Judith Pangelinan.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with the disaster case manager Emma Corpuz, she stressed that the families or individuals that avail of this grant must be employed so that after the three-month assistance is up, the families will be able to support themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Beneficiariesmust not be a recipient of the Federal Emergency Management Agency\u2019s temporary housing program called VALOR, FEMA\u2019s permanent housing assistance, or other federal programs.<\/p>\n<p>Karidat ask that the applicants provide employment verification, two latest check stubs, and other income verifications\u2014if you receive social security or disability benefits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard, especially if you are supporting an x amount of people and you\u2019re still living in a tent or live somewhere where it\u2019s not safe.
