{"id":316656,"date":"2020-01-30T06:04:33","date_gmt":"2020-01-29T20:04:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=316656"},"modified":"2020-01-30T06:04:33","modified_gmt":"2020-01-29T20:04:33","slug":"cpa-will-suffer-2-2m-revenue-loss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/cpa-will-suffer-2-2m-revenue-loss\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018CPA will suffer $2.2M revenue loss\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Ports Authority tentatively expects to lose an estimated $2.2 million due to the suspension of flights from China as a result of the coronavirus outbreak that started in Wuhan.<\/p>\n<p>In response to Saipan Tribune\u2019s request for comments about the virus outbreak\u2019s impact on CPA\u2019s revenue, CPA board chair Kimberlyn King-Hinds disclosed that their comptroller\u2019s preliminary review of the impacts peg an annual loss of $2.2 million should the suspension of flights continue toward end of fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s just CPA,\u201d she pointed out.<\/p>\n<p>She said Gov. Ralph DLG Torres is working with the Marianas Visitors Authority, Department of Finance, and the Office of the Management and Budget to get the necessary data to determine the overall impact on the CNMI.<\/p>\n<p>King-Hinds believes that the financial impact will be substantial and that Torres thinks as much by including in his executive order yesterday language that mandates an impact report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith that being said, the health and wellbeing of our community is priceless and the governor made the right call,\u201d said King-Hinds, referring to Torres\u2019 declaration of a state of significant emergency yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Travelers from mainland China arrive in the CNMI through carriers such as Hong Kong Express, China Eastern Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and Beijing Capital Airlines.<\/p>\n<p>Carriers such as Jeju Airlines, T\u2019Way Airlines, and Asiana Airlines also bring Chinese travelers to the CNMI transiting through Seoul and Incheon, Republic of Korea.
