It may very well be the first and only book lounge on Saipan and that sense of being in a haven greets you as soon as you step through its doors. The décor’s cool tones, relaxing lights, and open spaces invite guests to sit down, read a book, or work on your laptop while enjoying coffee and a pastry from their café. You can pick any of the books on the shelves or bring your own and find a seat facing the pool area that extends to the ocean.

“Oasis Book Lounge was originally meant for families and individuals staying in the hotel. They can relax, read a book, play board games. This ‘family concept’ facility is an added attraction to the hotel. The initial idea was to have only hotel guests but now, we are having a promo wherein non-guests can also come and enjoy what we offer,” said local sales manager Mike Babauta.

“Our café serves delicious drinks—coffee, tea, soda, fruit juices—snacks, cakes, and pastries. We also offer made-to-order cakes from the hotel bakery such as mocha cake, dark chocolate cake, cheese cake, heart cake with strawberry flavor, to name a few. …We plan to change our offerings once in a while depending on what is popular to the public,” Babauta added.

Currently, the books and the board games are in Korean but Babauta said the lounge will soon stock up on other books in English, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese. Board games in English will also be added to the current roster of board games that the lounge has.

According to Oasis manager Ronald Sanchez, the Oasis Book Lounge will also have different activities that guests can join for a minimal fee. “We call them ‘program sessions,’ like cake decoratng class, T-shirt dyeing class, and candle making, where people can register and join. But since the seats are limited and quick to be filled, we encourage everyone to reserve ideally a day before,” he said.

“Personally, I enjoy seeing families and friends who come here to read, relax, or play games. …This is a nice alternative to children who are just glued to their smartphones playing games. Even for adults, it is nice to see them loosen up and enjoy time with loved ones. …We also welcome professionals here as this is an ideal place to do some work or meet with clients,” he added.

Whether it’s for work or play, the Oasis Book Lounge is open Monday to Sunday from 10am to 10pm.
