{"id":317127,"date":"2020-02-07T06:00:56","date_gmt":"2020-02-06T20:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=317127"},"modified":"2020-02-07T06:00:56","modified_gmt":"2020-02-06T20:00:56","slug":"doi-water-treatment-engineers-to-aid-palau-public-utilities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/doi-water-treatment-engineers-to-aid-palau-public-utilities\/","title":{"rendered":"DOI water treatment engineers to aid Palau public utilities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong>\u2014A team of water treatment engineers from the Department of the Interior\u2019s Bureau of Reclamation will be in Palau for two weeks beginning Feb. 7, 2020, to assist the Palau Public Utilities Corp.<\/p>\n<p>Supported by funding from the Office of Insular Affairs, their work will include assessing the existing conditions at 16 water treatment facilities throughout Palau.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cInterior Secretary David Bernhardt, when representing President Trump at the Pacific Islands Forum in Tuvalu, announced this water project,\u201d said U.S. Department of the Interior Assistant Secretary, Insular and International Affairs, Doug Domenech. \u201cThis is another example of the administration\u2019s commitment to the people of Palau and the importance of the relationship between the United States and Palau under the Compact of Free Association.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Bureau of Reclamation has a long history of sharing its water expertise throughout the world,\u201d said Reclamation commissioner Brenda Burman. \u201cI am excited for our engineers to work with the people of Palau to help them assess their water treatment challenges.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Funding for this project was provided through the Office of Insular Affairs and first announced in October 2019. Similar water and utility projects will also be supported in the Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of the Marshall Islands with expertise and support from Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
