Senate President Victor B. Hocog appointed last week Sen. Sixto K. Igisomar (R-Saipan) to serve as the Senate member on the State Workforce Development Board, which addresses matters affecting the CNMI\u2019s workforce.<\/p>\n
Hocog made the appointment at the request of Gov. Ralph DLG. Torres last December to select a Senate representative to serve a two-year term on the board.<\/p>\n
The appointment is technically a renewal for Igisomar as he has been a member of the SWDB as Senate representative since he became a senator in 2015. Prior to become a senator, Igisomar was already participating in the SWDB as Commerce secretary.<\/p>\n
For his part, House Speaker Blas Jonathan T. Attao (R-Saipan) appointed Rep. Ralph N. Yumul (R-Saipan) to the board as the House representative.<\/p>\n
In a later interview, Igisomar said it is a must for them as legislators to participate in a group that is basically run by the private sector to look into the labor needs of the private industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a collaboration or network,\u201d Igisomar said. \u201cMy role [in representing the] Senate, along with the House, is to look for ways to support this board, how we can make sure that their efforts, their projects, and their directives are taken care of.\u201d <\/p>\n
The senator said the Legislature is one of those that should be a part of this board so that if there is any discussion, projects, development within the board, they try to make it as seamless as possible. <\/p>\n
Pursuant to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, the governor shall establish a SWDB to, among other functions, develop a statewide workforce development plan with the primary objective of supporting a comprehensive and streamlined workforce development system in the CNMI.<\/p>\n
SWDB membership includes stakeholders from both the private and public sectors, with the specific inclusion of a member of each chamber of the local legislature, appointed by the respective presiding officer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
