(Jayson Camacho)<\/figcaption><\/figure>Hundreds of community members attended an exquisite ballet performance presented by the Performing Arts Society and Glushko\u2019s Academy last Saturday and Sunday at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.<\/p>\n<p>The event featured performances from two ballet stars of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet of Canada and three modern ballet performers from Japan and Saipan\u2019s very own ballet performers.<\/p>\n<p>Opening the production was a slideshow presentation of previous ballet concerts staged by Glushko\u2019s Academy on Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Azumi Shirai of Japan kicked off the night with her performance of \u201cLa Rosa Roja (Like a Crimson Rose\u201d). Etsuko Nishizawa and Mayumi Akeo of Japan did a dance duet called \u201cPianist.\u201d Olga Malinovskay and Artjom Maksakov of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet of Canada performed a piece called \u201cAdagio,\u201d an excerpt from \u201cRomeo and Juliet.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The main event, called \u201cPaquita Grand Pas,\u201d showcased a lengthier ballet performance by Malinovskay and Maksakov, with solos by Cerinn Hwang, Sakura Imaya, and Joy Sizemore, and supporting performances by 30 of Glushko\u2019s Academy\u2019s young students.<\/p>\n<p>Audiences of the two-night show agreed that this year\u2019s production was one of the best yet, showcasing bravura performances, particularly from its two Russian ballet stars.<\/p>\n<p>Anna Glushko, creative director and choreographer of Glushko\u2019s Academy, said she is happy with the turnout.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am delighted and I don\u2019t think that it could be any greater than it happened. Because we were inside we didn\u2019t have to worry about the weather and our girls worked very hard and I am glad that the ballet performers [from Japan and Russia] made this night very memorable,\u201d Glushko said.<\/p>\n<p>Glushko hopes that the international ballerinas would continue to perform on Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Gene Eagle-Oden, president of the Performing Arts Society, said that they are fortunate to have this year\u2019s performers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are a very flawless couple performers we have ever had in the CNMI, and they are the highest-ranked professionals that we have ever had.
