On Monday, former South Bend, Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg, and just yesterday, former Minnesota senator Amy Klobuchar ended their presidential campaigns, with both endorsing former vice president Joe Biden. \u201cThat narrows the race just as it should be, and, at the end of the day, we should all support whomever the nominee will be. We want to see all Democrats unite with several goals to achieve but mainly to defeat Donald Trump,\u201d said NMI Democratic Party vice chair Danny Quitugua. <\/p>\n
Former presidential candidate Beto O\u2019Rourke from El Paso, Texas, also endorsed Biden and took the stage to support him at his rally in Texas. <\/p>\n
With Super Tuesday just about to begin, \u201cI\u2019m sure we can expect to see several endorsements for the other candidates too from all over the country,\u201d said Quitugua. <\/p>\n
As of March 3, the remaining four Democratic presidential candidates\u2014Biden, Mike Bloomberg, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren\u2014qualify for the NMI Presidential Caucus ballot. <\/p>\n
\u201cWho will be the two nominees and or possible last one standing, we will have to wait and see,\u201d said NMI Democrat Shawna JP Indalecio. \u201cI am a huge supporter of Mayor Pete Buttigieg and even worked to collect signatures for his qualifying petition that got his name on the NMI ballot. Although I\u2019m a huge fan, Joe Biden\u2019s my man and I was very happy to see Mayor Pete\u2019s endorsement.\u201d <\/p>\n
The March 14 caucus will be the first step in the CNMI\u2019s participation in this process. At the caucus, Democrats will elect delegates to attend the National Convention according to presidential preference group. The caucus will be held on Saipan with simultaneous sub-caucuses to be held on Tinian and Rota, with locations and times to be announced later this week. All persons interested to become delegates to the 2020 Democratic National Convention in Milwaukee Wisconsin, pledged to any of the presidential candidates should visit www.nmidems.org to receive a delegate candidacy form and submit their candidacy on or before March 8, 2020.
