The Korean community on Saipan paid for the expenses incurred in the burial of a 49-year-old male who passed away last Feb. 8.<\/p>\n
According to Won Suk Bang, Korean consular assistant, the Korean community helped pitch in with donations and that\u2019s how they were able to donate $2,000 to the Commonwealth Health Care Corp. to pay for burial expenses.<\/p>\n
Hun Young Park, a 49-year-old male, had a stroke one week prior to his death. According to Bang, Park had been admitted to the intensive care of the Commonwealth Health Center and progressively worsened. Park\u2019s body remained unclaimed because he had no family on the island and had no known history of an employer. According to Bang, Park had issues with renewing his CNMI-Only Transitional Worker visa, which led him to stay on Saipan for the last six years of his life.<\/p>\n
Bang mentioned that the Korean government also reached out to Park\u2019s family but they were overseas and weren\u2019t available to come for the burial.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to extend our appreciation to CHC for being really helpful with everything for someone who doesn\u2019t have a family on the island,\u201d said Bang.<\/p>\n
Last Feb 18, the American Red Cross-NMI Chapter, along with the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Veteran Affairs Office, had a special burial known as the \u201cFinal Salute\u201d for an unclaimed veteran, Robert McCausland, whose body had been languishing at the CHC morgue for 18 months. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
