{"id":318624,"date":"2020-03-06T06:01:27","date_gmt":"2020-03-05T20:01:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=318624"},"modified":"2020-03-06T06:01:27","modified_gmt":"2020-03-05T20:01:27","slug":"political-status-commission-holds-rota-outreach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/political-status-commission-holds-rota-outreach\/","title":{"rendered":"Political status commission holds Rota outreach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Second Marianas Political Status Commission had its first public education forum on Rota on Jan. 28 and 29  to, among other goals, solicit public input about the CNMI\u2019s current political status in relation to the United States.<\/p>\n<p>At the forum, the commission listened, educated and present to people the history of the Covenant to establish a Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands in Political Union with the United States and solicited public input about this status, along with other political status options.<\/p>\n<p>Public Law 19-63 created the Second Marianas Political Status Commission to examine the political relationship between the United States of America and the CNMI. The commission was created to determine whether some other political status would \u201cbetter enable the CNMI to fulfill their aspirations of full and meaningful self-government; and for other purposes.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>The commission is in the process of launching a website. <\/p>\n<p>The public is invited to attend future public education forums on Saipan and Tinian.
