On Thursday, March 20, 2014, the Admiral Herbert G. Hopwood Junior High School held its second successful PTSA sponsored walk-a-thon. The walk-a-thon was held at our school\u2019s soccer field and was followed by a set of games for our students, something we like to call \u201cThe Hungry Games!\u201d<\/p>\n
We started off this event by having the teams all gather around the soccer field. The field came alive as each team wore their team colors and spirit. Then, Mr. Barcinas, our school principal, gave some encouraging opening remarks. With that, we all together started the five laps or 1.25 miles around the field as one Hilitai family. <\/p>\n
All students, beforehand, were given their walk-a-thon pledge forms, and they spent two weeks aggressively collecting pledges from their aunties, uncles, and friends. Prizes were given to the top three collectors, and were recognized for their hard work!<\/p>\n
Shortly afterwards, when the students were cooling off and getting rehydrated, Team StuCo began their preparations for The Hungry Games! Cones, markers, and boundaries, were set to guide players along the tasks. Representatives of every team competed in the following events: football throw, pink ball throw, kick away, three-point shootout, free throw, 50 meter dash, and 100 meter dash! A whole set of active and healthy competition certainly brought out the best of the best from our school community!<\/p>\n
We interviewed our very own StuCo president, Chloe Salvosa, and we asked her, \u201cWhat preparations did Team StuCo make for this event?\u201d She stated that a huge credit goes out to Mr. Jones \u201cfor guiding us in planning all the games. We worked together in getting everything done, and I\u2019m glad on how it turned out in the end!\u201d <\/p>\n
Carlo Prado, a representative from Team A, participated in the 3-point shootout. He says, \u201cI was really pressured, but it was really fun.\u201d We asked him, \u201cShould our school do this again?\u201d And he said, \u201cYes we should. It really brought our school together.\u201d<\/p>\n
The champion of the Hungry Games was none other than Team E, which finished with 295 points! Second place was Team D, with 285 points, and third was Team G with 260 points! <\/p>\n
A special Hilitai thank you goes out to all the teachers, parents, and students who helped make this event a huge success. Our school managed to raise $2,083.43!
