Shannon Jackson, the New Hampshire campaign director of Democratic Party presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders, arrived on Saipan last Tuesday for this Saturday\u2019s Democratic Caucus in the CNMI.<\/p>\n
Nola Kileleman Hix, the Democratic Party of the NMI chairwoman, said yesterday that Jackson arrived after a 33-hour flight from Vermont. <\/p>\n
His presence is intended to encourage people from the Northern Mariana Islands to take part in the caucus and vote for Sanders, Hix said.<\/p>\n
At the caucus, Democrats will elect delegates to the National Convention of the Democratic Party. The caucus will be held on Saipan at the Saipan World Resort\u2019s Taga Ballroom, with simultaneous sub-caucuses to be held at the Northern Marianas College\u2019s VTC rooms on Tinian and Rota.<\/p>\n
Hix said Jackson\u2019s wife will also be coming this Saturday. <\/p>\n
Hix said she appreciates the fact that Jackson is here for a week, that somebody involved on the ground in the U.S. mainland actually flew out here.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe, on behalf of the Party, appreciate the fact that he came out, he flew out here to meet with voters. And not only that, to learn about politics here in the CNMI,\u201d Hix said.<\/p>\n
She said that Jackson is meeting with people on the ground, trying to push the campaign for Sanders and to discuss Sanders\u2019 plan for the territories.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a great time to be involved in politics,\u201d said Hix, adding that she can say the same for the Democratic Party\u2019s other presidential candidate, former vice president Joe Biden. <\/p>\n
Hix said she and Biden\u2019s team have been in contact and that they\u2019re also looking forward to the caucus on Saturday.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey\u2019ve reached out, asked what it is that we need, what they can do to help. And that\u2019s just it. It\u2019s not so much about \u2018vote for me, vote for me.\u2019 It\u2019s what can we do to help you have a successful turnout participation in this historic, second ever in history, presidential caucus in the NMI,\u201d Hix said.<\/p>\n
She said Jackson is going to be attending the humanities discussion about sovereignty Wednesday night.<\/p>\n
