Cybersecurity is critical and imperative for the Commonwealth Utilities Corp., according to CUC executive director Gary P. Camacho.<\/p>\n
Cyberattack is obviously huge and that CUC has two staff working on program for cyber security, said Camacho in response to Rep. Luis John DLG. Castro\u2019s (R-Saipan) inquiry during a recent meeting with members of the House Public Utilities, Transportation and Communications. <\/p>\n
Camacho said right now they are trying to get a request for proposals for a contractor to come in and build CUC\u2019s five-year plan for budget purposes that will include cyber security.<\/p>\n
Camacho said recently that CUC is integrating so many technologies into their system.<\/p>\n
He noted, among other things, that they are doing Advanced Metering Infrastructures (AMI) on electric metering and in fact, Tinian is almost completely AMI right now. <\/p>\n
Camacho said they are putting up a program together where they are going to outsource services\u2014the Information Technology aspect of the corporation. <\/p>\n
Camacho said this will basically start to give them a five-year plan to 10-year plan on platforms to build.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause we don\u2019t want to build something today which is far too big to what is we have. So we want to incorporate to our infrastructure growth,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Camacho said power transmission and distribution now are almost completely GIS (geographic information system).<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean we can literally open up layers and layer, and layers of our system and our performance and all of that again is IT. A lot of these is now exceeding our IT capabilities,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
