{"id":319738,"date":"2020-03-25T06:03:09","date_gmt":"2020-03-24T20:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=319738"},"modified":"2020-03-25T06:03:09","modified_gmt":"2020-03-24T20:03:09","slug":"expired-vehicle-registration-drivers-license-are-extended","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/expired-vehicle-registration-drivers-license-are-extended\/","title":{"rendered":"Expired vehicle registration, driver\u2019s license are extended"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Bureau of Motor Vehicles of the CNMI Department of Public Safety will be extending recently expired driver\u2019s licenses and vehicle registrations without penalty.<\/p>\n<p>All expired driver\u2019s licenses have a grace period of 30 working days after the expiration date for renewal before a $20 penalty fee is owed. All expired vehicle registrations have a grace period of 10 days after the expiration date for renewal before a $30 penalty fee is owed. As of March 16, 2020, BMV was temporarily closed, as part of the nationwide concern of the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>All recent expired driver\u2019s licenses and vehicle registrations will have their expiration dates extended. For example, if your CNMI driver\u2019s license or vehicle registration expires during the temporary closure of BMV, you will be granted a waiver without penalty until the BMV reopens for normal operation.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you have an expired driver\u2019s license or vehicle registration, BMV would like to ask the public to notify their insurance provider as a courtesy.<\/p>\n<p>Officers conducting patrol are aware of this and are mindful of recently expired driver\u2019s licenses and vehicle registrations.<\/p>\n<p>The COVID-19 Task Force and the CNMI\u00a0Department\u00a0of Public Safety advise the public to\u00a0refrain from making unnecessary trips to public places.
