Due to a governmentwide cut in revenue, the Tinian municipality has been directed to cut its municipal budget by 50% for the remainder of the fiscal year, and this will result is many municipal employees being let go.<\/p>\n
Tinian Mayor Edwin P. Aldan said in a notice last Friday that he\u2019s left with no choice but to furlough and\/or implement a reduction-in-force. <\/p>\n
\u201cAs your mayor, this is the most gut-wrenching decision I have ever had to make and I\u2019ve been agonizing how to lessen the impact on each and every one of you and your families,\u201d he said in the notice. <\/p>\n
Aldan said his Cabinet, the Tinian leadership, and key management staff have been working to ensure that the budget cut does not hamper the continued delivery of public programs and services on the island.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have also instructed to ensure that we provide as much assistance and support to assist affected employees with the expeditious processing of applications for benefits programs such as Medicaid, Nutritional Assistance Program, and Public Unemployment Assistance as soon as it becomes available,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Aldan also said that he encourages everyone to start to review eligibility requirements and gather documents to apply for future program benefits. <\/p>\n
