Kanani Lee A 17-year-old local lass is the latest addition to the growing membership of the prestigious National Society of High School Scholars, which recently recognized the student\u2019s superior academic achievements.<\/p>\n

Kanani Lee, a 12th grader at Saipan Southern High School, is the daughter of Lawrence and Winnie Lee. Currently, she is a member of her school\u2019s National Honor Society and the SSHS Manta Ray Concert Band, which performed in numerous international stages including an historic appearance at the 2012 Olympics in London.<\/p>\n

Lee\u2019s acceptance into the National Society of High School Scholars was recently announced by the organization\u2019s top executives: president James Lewis and founder and chairman Claes Nobel, a senior member of the family that established the Nobel Prizes.<\/p>\n

The NSHSS recognizes top scholars who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, scholarship, and community commitments. <\/p>\n

In an interview with Kanani, the student shared that she will soon be attending the University of Massachusetts Amherst and studying in the Commonwealth Honors College.<\/p>\n

Kanani also aims to become a travel writer someday.<\/p>\n

She said this latest honor she obtained means a lot to her and her family.<\/p>\n

\u201cI was thrilled upon receiving the news of an opportunity to participate in a nationwide honor society. I felt that, although I was so far from the other scholars in the organization, I could fully represent myself as a resident of the CNMI. The honor means a lot to me, as I have certainly worked hard throughout my high school career.
