For example, if your CNMI driver\u2019s license or vehicle registration expires during the temporary closure of BMV, you will be granted a waiver without penalty until BMV reopens for normal operation. An official announcement will be sent out to the public once the BMV office is scheduled to reopen. <\/p>\n
Police officers conducting patrol are aware of this and are mindful of recently expired driver\u2019s licenses and vehicle registrations. Motorists are asked to notify their insurance provider(s) as a courtesy. <\/p>\n
The BMV was temporarily closed on March 16, 2020, as part of the nationwide concern of the coronavirus. <\/p>\n
The Governor\u2019s COVID-19 Task Force and the CNMI Department of Public Safety advises the public to refrain from making unnecessary trips to public places. Limit public exposure to grocery store trips and food pick-ups. <\/p>\n
Under current regulations, all expired driver\u2019s licenses have a grace period of 30 working days after the expiration date for renewal before a $20 penalty fee is owed.
