{"id":323240,"date":"2020-05-20T06:00:54","date_gmt":"2020-05-19T20:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=323240"},"modified":"2020-05-20T06:00:54","modified_gmt":"2020-05-19T20:00:54","slug":"usdoes-covid-19-support-to-territories-fas-exceeds-172m","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/usdoes-covid-19-support-to-territories-fas-exceeds-172m\/","title":{"rendered":"USDOE\u2019s COVID-19 support to territories, FAS exceeds $172M"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>WASHINGTON, D.C.<\/strong>\u2014Over $172 million has been made available through the Education Stabilization Fund and the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund for the Outlying Areas to the governments, elementary, secondary, and postsecondary schools, including students in the territories and the freely associated states.<\/p>\n<p>This support was provided for under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, as signed by President Trump on March 26, 2020, and announced by the U.S. Department of Education on April 30 and posted to their website on May 5, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe funding made available today has very few bureaucratic strings attached and empowers education leaders to focus on doing what\u2019s best for their students during this pandemic,\u201d said U.S. Department of Education Secretary Betsy DeVos. \u201cThe [Trump] administration is committed to the success of students in the insular areas, and it is my hope that this additional funding will provide the support needed to expand technological, distance learning, training, and long-term planning capabilities that will ensure learning continues.\u201d  <\/p>\n<p>Douglas W.
