{"id":323489,"date":"2020-05-25T06:00:24","date_gmt":"2020-05-24T20:00:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=323489"},"modified":"2020-05-25T06:00:24","modified_gmt":"2020-05-24T20:00:24","slug":"four-nmc-rotc-cadets-win-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/four-nmc-rotc-cadets-win-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Four NMC ROTC cadets win awards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several cadets of the Northern Marianas College\u2019s Reserve Officers Training Corps program were presented with top awards at an annual awards ceremony held Friday, May 22, in coordination with the University of Guam ROTC Program.<\/p>\n<p>The awards were handed in an online ceremony attended by NMC interim president Frankie Eliptico, UOG president Tom Krise, Lt. Col. Tom Anderson, who is the professor of Military Science and director of NMC\u2019s ROTC program.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_323492\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-323492\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Kody-Babauta-copy-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-323492\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-323492\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Babauta<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The \u201cTop Cadet\u201d award was awarded to the best freshman and sophomore at NMC, as well as the best overall cadet in the NMC ROTC program.\u00a0 The \u201cTop Cadet\u201d award at the freshman level was won by NMC cadet Kody Babauta, who graduated from Saipan Southern High School.\u00a0 The award winner from the sophomore class was NMC cadet Bert Magallano, a fellow graduate of Saipan Southern High School, who said that \u201cthe person who was most helpful to me was [NMC ROTC instructor] Capt. Thomas Vu. \u2026I was interested in the program before meeting him, but his mentorship, motivation, and character has lit up an even bigger appetite in me to become a better version of myself.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Their award is conferred upon the cadets who display outstanding performance, commitment, and dedication to the ROTC program, and who best demonstrate the potential to serve as a leader in our Army. Additionally, one NMC cadet won the coveted \u201cSpirit\u201d award, which recognizes the cadet who best exemplifies the concept of service to the unit, the community, and to our nation.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_323491\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-323491\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Gavin-Pangelinan-copy-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-323491\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-323491\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pangelinan<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The \u201cTop Cadet of the Program\u201d award was earned by NMC cadet Gavin Pangelinan, who also graduated from Saipan Southern High School.\u00a0 \u201cI couldn\u2019t have come this far without my peers in NMC ROTC,\u201d said Pangelinan. \u201cI look forward to the bright futures that lie ahead of us, and the memories we will make along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cSpirit\u201d award recipient for NMC ROTC was cadet Sean Japor, who graduated from Marianas High School. Japor acknowledged that what keeps him motivated is \u201cbeing with cadets who help me through the struggles, and succeeding together in the end.\u201d \u00a0The \u201cSpirit\u201d award is sponsored by USAA and Japor received a Leatherman multi-tool, along with the plaque.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_323490\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-323490\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Bert-Magallano-copy-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-323490\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-323490\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Magallano<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>According to Anderson, the NMC awardees \u201care a great example of the commitment and motivation of all of the cadets in the program.\u00a0 They all work so well together, motivating each other to be the best leaders they can be.\u00a0 It\u2019s so much fun to be a part of their growth and development as young people and as leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud of the students and their achievement,\u201d said Eliptico. \u201cTheir commitment and dedication are an amazing inspiration for other students at NMC and for our CNMI community.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_323493\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-323493\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Sean-Japor-copy-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" class=\"size-thumbnail wp-image-323493\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-323493\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Japor<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>NMC\u2019s ROTC program is the premiere leadership development program in the CNMI, producing dynamic leaders for the CNMI, the Pacific, and the United States of America.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The program is accepting new applicants.
