(OFFICE OF THE GOVERNOR)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In a proclamation signing last Thursday attended by military officials in the CNMI and their civilian counterparts in the CNMI government, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres and Lt. Gov. Arnold I. Palacios proclaimed last May 21, 2020, as CNMI Armed Forces Day.<\/p>\n<p>This was in accordance with President Donald Trump\u2019s proclamation of May 15 as Armed Forces Day, during which he invited all governors to \u201cprovide for the observance of Armed Forces Day within their jurisdiction each year in an appropriate manner designed to increase public understanding and appreciation of the Armed Forces of the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe encourage everyone in our community to acknowledge and honor the service, sacrifices, and contributions of our Armed Forces, both past and present, for what they have done and for what they do every day to support our islands and our great nation,\u201d states the proclamation that Torres and Palacios signed. \u201cThese soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, and coast guardsmen have endured many sacrifices to defend the freedoms that make our island and nation what it is today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2004, the U.S Congress declared the month of May to be National Military Month for those who gave their lives in defense of freedom to honor men and women of all Armed Forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur island heritage and history, we remember the World War II battles fought in the Marianas and the struggles our people overcame. Everyone in the Marianas now enjoys such freedom that owes a lasting debt of gratitude to our Armed Forces,\u201d said Torres in the proclamation.
