The U.S. Department of Labor has approved the CNMI\u2019s implementation plan for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance and Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation programs<\/p>\n
USDOL also approved an initial disbursement of $70.5 million for the PUA and FPUC programs in the CNMI.<\/p>\n
Gov. Ralph DLG Torres announced the approval on Saturday on his official Facebook page, saying that USDOL\u2019s Employment and Training Administration has given the CNMI the green flag in how it will dole out the unemployment assistance. The CNMI Department of Labor has asked USDOL if legal foreign workers can also avail of this aid but it has yet to receive a response.<\/p>\n
\u201cLt. Gov. [Arnold I.] Palacios and I want to thank everyone at USDOL ETA who have been working closely with our Secretary of Labor Vicky Benavente and her team at CNMI DOL,\u201d said Torres. \u201cWe are eager to get these benefits out to employees who have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cWe also want to commend Secretary Benavente and her team at CNMI DOL for all their hard work to fulfill the requirements of the program since I executed the CNMI\u2019s agreement with USDOL on March 29, immediately after President Trump signed the CARES Act into law,\u201d added Torres.<\/p>\n
Benavente herself looks forward to getting \u201cthis much-needed assistance to employees in the CNMI.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI also want to recognize our hardworking team at the CNMI Department of Labor for their hard work and dedication. We will be pushing out this program very soon and will be making announcements before we open the application period,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
