(CONTRIBUTED PHOTOS)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Saipan International School did not let COVID-19 cancel its beloved annual musical this month, with classmates, family, and friends collaborating to create a virtual musical video that also became a contest.<\/p>\n<p>In an eclectic mix of entries that included Tik-Tok dances, family dance routines, and staff meeting lip-synching, the SIS community came together to sing, dance, play musical instruments, and provide messages of humor and hope.<\/p>\n<p>The virtual contest was sponsored by two restaurants\u2014The Shack and Spicy Thai Noodle Place\u2014who offered awards to winning entries.<\/p>\n<p>Videos were uploaded to the Award Force platform, which allowed for community members to vote on their favorite entry in a People\u2019s Choice category, and for selected judges to assess the best performance in each category: elementary, middle, high school, alumni, and family and friends.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/SIS-musical-pix2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-323886\" src=\"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/SIS-musical-pix2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"339\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe virtual musical made me realize that anything is possible. No virus can diminish the Gecko spirit,\u201d said kindergarten director Pam Villadores-Walsh.<\/p>\n<p>Winners included:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Elementary: Ms. Kathy\u2019s \u201cDance Monkey\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022 Middle school: 8th grade \u201cRadioactive\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022 High School: 9th grade \u201c9th Grade Musical Video\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022 Family + Friends: Casa de Song\u2019s \u201cNew Face\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022 Alumni: SIS Teacher\u2019s Past with \u201cWe Are Family\u201d<br \/>\n\u2022 People\u2019s Choice: Ms. Pam\u2019s Pre-K and Kindergarten \u201cZumba Dance\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For the last 20 years, each SIS class would perform a musical act for the customary school event, typically held at a local resort. This year, the musical was scheduled to be held at Saipan World Resort and would have paid tribute to SIS musicals from the past.
