Paul A. Manglona (R-Rota), who sent a letter to Rota Resort and Country Club owner Hee Cho last Wednesday.

“As you may be aware, the Rota Aluf Golf Association, a non-profit organization, was established to promote youth activities in the community and schools through golf programs and competitions. With the recent lifting of many COVID-19 restrictions, the gradual resumption of domestic economic activity in all our islands, and classes being virtually held, there is no better time than today to get our young people engaged in outdoor activities, such as golf,” Manglona said.

Last Monday, Gov. Ralph DLG Torres eased the restrictions on businesses and curfew, as he made amendments to the COVID-19 emergency directives. Even before the changes were made, some establishments, including golf courses on Saipan, have resumed their operation while still observing social distancing rules.

“With social distancing measures still in place and golf being a no-contact sport, we are hoping that you will be amenable to resuming operations at the golf course, even at a minimum, such as weekend or half day operations,” Manglona said.

Saipan Tribune reached out to Rota Resort to ask for comments on the Rota Aluf Golf Association and Manglona’s request, but has yet to get a response at press time last night.

Rota Aluf Golf Association is headed by Arvin C. Ogo and has over 20 members. Before the coronavirus pandemic, the group holds monthly tournaments and also provides programs to the island’s youth.

Last year, the group had the Inaugural Aluf Luta Golf Tournament that also featured players from Saipan, Tinian, and Guam.

[5

post-323900","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-sports
["GET
