Edwin Propst (D-Saipan), “Giving Table is an idea put together by some friends who wanted to pay forward and help people in our villages. Whatever is collected would be given out at different places on austerity Fridays.”
“There is no need to sign up for anything, people can pull up and take what they need. People can also drop off or donate canned goods as well for others. You take what you need, you give what you can,” Propst added.

Each individual received a sack of rice and a bag of four canned food. Donations came from a group of friends and family members.
Last Friday, “we did not count how many vehicles pulled up. Some took more than one bag, which is fine, as they can take additional bags if they have a bigger family or if they have a neighbor to give to,” Propst said.
“Giving Table” will also be there this coming Friday morning at the Dandan Middle School bus stop in front of the school.

Propst said that no family should ever go hungry. “It would be great to see this expanded to every village. Hunger is an issue and it is not limited to the homeless. My family and I are not rich, but we have offered whatever we have in our home to help others in dire need,” said Propst. “We have hundreds of families in need of help right now, many of whom may not even qualify for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance.
