{"id":326688,"date":"2020-07-21T06:03:08","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T20:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/?p=326688"},"modified":"2020-07-21T06:03:08","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T20:03:08","slug":"jkpl-launches-early-literacy-and-childrens-story-hour","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/jkpl-launches-early-literacy-and-childrens-story-hour\/","title":{"rendered":"JKPL launches Early Literacy and Children\u2019s Story Hour"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 70 children and their parents or guardians have participated and\/or registered for the 2020 Summer Reading Program\u2019s Story Hour classes, which the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library launched last Tuesday, July 14, 2020.<\/p>\n<p>The children and their parents or guardians enjoyed listening and watching children\u2019s librarian\/certified teacher Rosalinda Ulloa and Bookmobile supervisor\/certified teacher Leoralynn S. Terlaje present Early Literacy and Children\u2019s Story Hour class. <\/p>\n<p>Moreover, thanks to the Lady Diann Torres Foundation, the Story Hour class also featured specials guests\u2014Cookie Monster, Elmo, and Cat in the Hat\u2014who made surprise appearances throughout the week. <\/p>\n<p>Families were ecstatic for the Story Hour class which includes a Motheread\/Fatheread CNMI Learning Package to Go to take home and create stories and bonding experiences with their children. <\/p>\n<p>In the Early Literacy Story Hour and Children\u2019s Story Hour class, which is sponsored by the Northern Marianas Humanities Council\u2019s Motheread\/Fatheread CNMI, certified teachers of the Motheread\/Fatheread CNMI facilitate the classes, which are a combination of two literacy programs: Motheread\/Fatheread CNMI\u2019s Story Exploring Class and JKPL\u2019s Read Aloud. Classes are offered daily for the community. <\/p>\n<p>The Early Literacy and Children\u2019s Story Hour utilizes Motheread\/Fatheread CNMI\u2019s Story Exploring model\u2014designed for children from birth through age 11\u2014which uses multicultural award-winning children\u2019s books to build reading and critical thinking skills. This curriculum uses targeted reading, writing, listening, and speaking activities to foster problem solving, increase comprehension, and nurture a love of books. Children learn vocabulary and how to interpret stories using props, games, songs, and other activities to make reading fun. <\/p>\n<p>To join the classes, a valid JKPL card is required. Limited seats are available. First registered, first served. Interested participants are invited to contact the library by appointment only at (670) 235-7315\/7322\/7323 (READ) during hours of operation: Tuesdays to Thursdays from 9:30am to 3:30pm and Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30am to 11:30am.
